How To

How to make a perfect Omelette

Omelets is one of my favourite breakfast foods. How do you make them perfect? I've tried many recipes and different methods but none have worked. So I wanted to share some tips and tricks so that you can make delicious, fluffy omelets every morn.

When making omelets, it is important to be aware that eggs can be temperamental. Eggs must be purchased fresh, preferably organic, and kept chilled until ready for cooking. If you don't keep them cold enough, the whites won't form properly, and the yolks will break down too much and become runny. This will make your omelets appear strangely colored. If you intend to cook your eggs immediately, it's best to use room-temperature egg.

Another tip is to separate each egg before adding them to the saucepan. Because this could cause your omelet to become curdled, you don't want any yolk to be mixed with any white.

You might burn the bottom of the egg if you place the egg directly on the stovetop. This could ruin the texture of your omelet. Instead, heat the egg for 10 seconds in the microwave before placing it in the pan. The microwave heat will cook the egg just right without making it too hot.

Next, let’s talk about mixing the egg. Mix eggs well together. To do this, take the bowl from the mixer and flip it upside-down. Now shake the bowl vigorously. By doing this, the egg is thoroughly mixed with the air in the bowl.

The fun part is now - adding the milk to the mixture. The first step is to pour half of the milk in the beaten eggs. Next, fold the eggs into the remaining milk. You don't need to worry if streaks remain. They will disappear once you flip your omelet.

After you have done folding the eggs, heat the pan on medium heat. The oil will start to smoke. Once the oil starts getting hot, add 1/4 cup of butter to the pan and swirl it around to coat the entire surface of the pan. Now carefully crack open the lid of the pan and sprinkle salt into the pan. An additional pinch of salt will prevent the omelet form sticking to your pan.

Once the omelet forms, cover the pan again. Let the top side set completely. Use a spatula to flip the omelet or turn the pan upside-down. Cook the second side for a minute or so. Remove the omelet from the pan and serve immediately.

This recipe works best with whole milk, but skimmed milk also works.
